The Week of Hope!

August 31st, 2009

Wimzie Prints was featured in the Latter-Day Sentinal today. I’ll be participating in the week of Hope September 1-7. What’s the week of Hope, you ask? It is one week during the year that card retailers offer free postage stamps with every card you purchase so you can send a hand written note of HOPE and encouragement to someone who needs it. Check out the article…(click here).

And if you want a free stamp with a really cute card, visit the Wimzie Prints store (click here). Mention the code BLOG for fee shipping, too!

Book Review: The Princess Bride

August 13th, 2009

Title: The Princess Bride, S. Morgenstern’s Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure
Author: William Goldman
Why I Read This: For book club
Short Summary: Since I have the movie version of this book practically memorized word for word, I wasn’t sure I would enjoy the book. After reading the (very long) introduction I was intrigued. I had no idea this book was abridged from an actual satirical history by S. Morgenstern about a real country called Florin. I always thought it was just a silly spoof of mid-evil times. Buttercup and Wesley actually existed! Who knew?

This abridged version of Morgenstern’s epic tale contains more details than the movie version I love. We learn more about Indigo and Fezzik’s background and friendship, Prince Humperdink’s obsession with hunting and how Wesley became the “farm boy”. It is full of adventure, true love, whit and satire. I couldn’t put it down.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

I’m a Writer!

August 10th, 2009

Those of you who have known me the longest probably remember that at one time I considered Journalism as a career. Graphic Design quickly won me over, however and I haven’t written much since. The opportunity to write a weekly blurb on local entertainment for an on-line publication just kind of fell in my lap a couple weeks ago and I’ve decided to take it. Read my first piece at latterdaysentinel.com

Retailer Spotlight: Card Cycle

August 6th, 2009

Let me introduce you to a really unique company, Card Cycle. At cardcycle.com you choose a greeting card from their large selection. Then they hand write your personal message inside, apply postage and mail the card for you. They’ll even send you a reminder next year for the same occasion (no more excuses for forgetting your mother’s birthday now!).

Card Cycle’s mission is to “promote human relationships through greeting cards,” which is right in line with Wimzie Prints’ goals. We’re thrilled that Card Cycle has chosen to carry a couple of our cards. Thanks guys! Share the Love!

DIY: Elephant Baby Shower Cake

August 5th, 2009

I decorated this cake for a friend’s baby shower. It was so easy (especially since another friend had baked the cake, all I had to do was make the frosting and pipe the design). For basic frosting tips check out wilton.com.

After I had the basic layer of chocolate frosting on the cake it was time to pipe the elephant. To make sure I got it just right I printed out a template from my computer, cut it out and then traced around it with a toothpick. Then I piped in the blue frosting and lettering with a small round tip. The chocolate border was done with a shell tip.

To make your party even cuter, you might try matching the invitations to the theme of the cake and give the mom-to-be a set of matching thank-you notes. Like these:

Get a FREE download of the custom elephant template used to decorate this cake when you buy either of the above invitations or thank you cards at my etsy shop. Use promo code FREE TEMPLATE in message to the seller and provide a valid email address.

Happy decorating!
